David: You look really tired, Lisa. What did you do this weekend?
Lisa: I drove to Hualien with a friend to see Taroko Gorge. I’m never going to do that again.
David: Why not? I thought Taroko Gorge was one of the most beautiful places in Taiwan.
Lisa: It is. But getting there by car is exhausting. And it took so long that we had little time to Hualien. That’s not that far.
David: Really? It’s about 250 kilometers from Taipei to Hualien. That’s not that far.
Lisa: That’s true. But it took us five-and-a-half hours to get there, and about the same amount of time to get back.
David: Five-and-a-half hours? I don’t believe you. Back home, I could drive twice that far in five hours.
Lisa: But that’s because in your country the speed limit is much higher. And you don’t have to drive up and down mountains.
David: Did you drive all that way by yourself? I thought you went with Gerald.
Lisa: Gerald doesn’t have a license and he’s afraid of driving in the mountains, so I had to drive all by myself.
David: Then why did you take the train?
Lisa: We thought about that, but all of the seats were sold out, and we didn’t want to stand up.
David: You really should have bought tickets earlier. The train gets to Hualien a lot faster than a car can, and it’s safer.
Lisa: You’re right. I’ve learned my lesson. From now on, no more long road trips. I’ll take the train next time, because driving for so long can be such a miserable experience. I really wish I hadn’t gone.
David: Don’t say that. You should look on the bright side. You won’t make the same mistake again, and your next trip will be much more enjoyable.
